If the power goes out, do you have flashlights and backup batteries? Do you rely on medication or medical devices that require electricity? If you need to leave your home, do you know where to go or do you have a designated family meeting spot? If it happened now, Are you Ready?

Emergencies don't wait for you to prepare before they strike, and we know all too well that they can happen at any time, anywhere. 'Emergency preparedness' sounds daunting, but by taking small actions every week or every month, getting prepared can become part of your regular routine, just like buying groceries or doing laundry.

May 3 – 9 is Emergency Preparedness Week and we are asking all Ottawans to join us in taking steps to prepare our households, businesses, and neighbourhoods.  We are constantly working to improve the way we provide vital services to residents and visitors during an emergency. The actions you take now can help keep the City strong and resilient, improving our ability to bounce back and recover more quickly when an emergency does happen.

The City's Are you Ready program provides steps to help you prepare your household through emergency plans and kits, awareness of hazards, and involvement in community preparedness organizations.
Visit ottawa.ca/areyouready and follow us on twitter @OEMOttawa where we will be providing you with helpful preparedness tips and tricks all week long.  Share your stories and actions using the hashtags   #iamready, #weareready, #EPWeek.

You won't want to miss our EP Week launch event taking place on Monday, May 4th from 11:00 – 1:30pm.  Join us at 11:30am for the official kickoff and help us celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Are you Ready program, and recognize the 2015 Partners in Preparedness award recipients.

Visit the community display booths and learn valuable preparedness information for you and your family including how to prepare an emergency kit for your home.
